The Commissioner’s Court meeting on Friday, 1/30/26 is most important to residents of Anderson County.
They will be addressing the grant that will allow the court to replace/repair the stained-glass dome in the county courthouse. It has to be approved and started so it can be finished by November 30. If not finished and paid for by the end of the year, and or the terms of the grant are not followed, the county will have to remit the grant money back to the federal government. Our commissioner's Court is responsible for using it correctly, or the money for the repairs will have to come out of the budget. It is a State Law that the courthouse must be maintained.
The contract to fix it requires that we have an architect to satisfy the Historical Society and the State of Texas. Some of our commissioners have refused to address the issue several times over the last year and are now facing a deadline. If not done correctly, the county will have to remit over $900,000 of the grant. If approved, the money spent to fix the dome can be used to apply for a matching grant this year for other repairs.
Please get in touch with your commissioner and ask them to vote YES on this issue before this priceless piece of lead glass is lost to our beautiful county.

Many were surprised to see Bass in attendance, whether he wanted to hear from the angry residents, or perhaps did not quite expect the outcry the proposed project has caused. Many gave Bass begrudging acknowledgment — no matter your opinion of the man, his projects, or his tactics — he sat stoically though four hours of non-stop negative comments from lawmakers and residents.
